Ace Atkins has released two books this May. The first…THE BROKEN PLACES… is another in his continuing series featuring sheriff Quinn Colson, a gulf war vet determined to clean up his small hometown in Mississippi. Three escaped convicts have other ideas, targeting the boyfriend of Colson’s sister. The rub is that the boyfriend is a ex-con himself, out by pardon after serving five years for killing his wife. Added to this combustible mix, a tornado destroys much of the town — in an eerie echo of the recent tragedy in Oklahoma.
Atkins’ next is Robert B. Parker’s WONDERLAND, his second tome sanctioned by the Parker
estate to carry on the Spenser character. He writes as if guided by the late author’s invisible hand, but in our conversation details the challenge of picking up where the master storyteller left off. He also breaks the news that there may be a new Spenser for Hire film or television series.
